Canal Diggers 5K

Hosted by the Central Mass Striders, the Canal Diggers 5K in Worcester, MA is a road race that really treats you right.

Most races give you a cotton T-shirt; the Canal Diggers 5K gives you a technical running shirt that I think I will really run in.

Most road races have a sign to mark each mile; the Canal Diggers 5K has a big digital clock at each mile, to spur you on.

And of course most races have some post-race nourishment, often just bananas and water; but the Canal Diggers 5K has a great BBQ with burgers, chicken, pizza–and excellent Harpoon beer!

Could I ask for anything more in a road race?

Sure.  I could hope for a fast course.  And the Canal Diggers 5K delivers.  I know it must be fast because I ran a minute and a half faster than I have at any other 5K this year.

(P.S.  I ran barefoot, and found the asphalt very smooth underfoot, every step of the way.)

Come! Run with me now…

(I took this photo, and the others below, while running.)

That was just a few snapshots, to give a you a taste. Now, come experience the entire race!

There are two ways to do this:

1) you can peruse a photo gallery on Facebook (tagging yourself and your friends)…

or…

2) you can immerse yourself in a full-screen HD video!

An Cu Liath 5K

One of the lynchpin running clubs in the Massachusetts/New Hampshire region is the Central Mass. Striders (CMS).

Why do I call them a “lynchpin” running club? Because they hold together the greater running community that stretches from Boston and the New Hampshire seacoast on the east…to Rhode Island in the south, the White Mountains in the North, and the Berkshires in the West.

Their excellent stewardship of the Mt. Wachusett Race and the Dam Trail Race have pulled together mountain runners and trail runners from throughout New England…and their weekly 5K at the An Cu Liath Pub in Worcester is a local gem.

I can’t run tonight (due to a double whammy of plantar fasciitis and tendinitis, both in the same beleagered foot)–but that won’t keep me away! Tonight the Central Mass Striders have invited my running club (the Mystic Runners) to join them, and I will cheer and take photos at the An Cu Liath 5K.

Come! Join me at the An Cu Liath 5K…

All right! Let’s get to the good stuff–an HD video that puts you right in the middle of this race. Go ahead! Click the ‘Play’ button below. (And be sure to view the video in Full-Screen, so you’ll see the photos in panoramic, high-resolution.)
