Race to the Top of Vermont

The FJG Race to the Top of Vermont might be Mount Washington’s little brother. Just as steep as Washington, and it feels much like Mt. Washington…but it’s only 4.3 miles (vs. 7.6 to the top of Mt. W.) So you never get to climb above the clouds. But it’s a great race, with a terrific post-race BBQ and raffle. Well worth the drive to Stowe, VT.

Come! Run with me now

Mountain bikers start 5 minutes before we run!

We're running NOW!

(I took this photo, and the two below, while running.)

The road rises and disappears into the mist.

Joy at the summit.

All right! Let’s get to the good stuff–an HD video that puts you right in the middle of this race. Go ahead! Click the ‘Play’ button below. (And be sure to view the video in Full-Screen, so you’ll see the race in panoramic, high-resolution.)

Were you at this race–and if so, what did you like best about it? What could be improved?

(If you weren’t there, I hope these photos and HD video gave you a taste of the race…and I hope I’ll see you at a race next week.)

Witch City Triathlon

Here are photos I took at the 2009 Witch City Triathlon in Salem, MA.

This Sprint-distance triathlon consists of a 1/2-mile Open Water Swim, a 12-mile bike leg, and a 5K run. Fellow Mystic Runners Jeff Mader and Bob Lane joined me so we could compete as a relay team.

I swam…                                  Jeff rode his bike….                           …and Bob ran.
